yoga while driving

most everyone's biggest excuse not to do a yoga asana practice is "lack of time."

well here are some ways to practice body and breath consciousness while driving to help calm and clear the mind.

since i'm right-handed, i'm finding a lack of balance between my right and left shoulders--my right shoulder has a lot of tightness compared to my left.

to help stretch out those tight muscles and achieve some balance in my shoulders, i start by sitting up as tall as possible, drawing the shoulder blades in toward the spine. the left arm muscles activate and become strong in the ability to maneuver the vehicle. then extend my right arm to rest my hand on the top of the passenger seat until i feel a stretch in the bicep and the front of my shoulder (the anterior deltoid muscle) and since my shoulders are pretty flexible i sometimes move the passenger seat back so that i have to really reach for it. or, i'll move my shoulder forward to enhance the stretch, whenever necessary to release the tension. the left arm builds strength, remaining tense, as my right arm opens, letting go of all tension.

then the most important part!!

deep controlled inhale and exhale, always through the nose.
let your breath flow through your entire body, aiding in circulation of vital energy!
